The Confidence Con

Why aren’t you taking centre stage and showing up front and centre for your business?

Is it because you are waiting to feel more confident? 

This mystical feeling that maybe one day; will float down from the heavens, out of the blue and settle within your soul so that BINGO…you feel confident enough to do what you know in your heart you need to do, in order to amplify your success and that is to get VISIBLE?

If that’s you, hold it right there – waiting isn’t going to serve you.

Here’s a much better idea – and what is it? Dun, dun, dah – by showing up FACE FIRST on socials (yikes, sharp intake of breath all round!)

I know, I get it…no way, that’s not a bit of you.  You don’t have the confidence at the moment to do that! But that will come right?  In time, right?  WRONG!! (well kind of – let me explain)

You see the thing with little old confidence and waiting for it to magically appear is going to get you nowhere fast and it’s no coincidence that the word ‘con’ is right there at the front of CONfidence.

I’m going to say this loudly and shoutily – "YOU DON’T NEED CONFIDENCE TO START SHOWING UP ON YOUR SOCIALS" (did you hear me?)

You see; the word confidence comes from the Latin word ‘confidere’ which means to trust.  Simply, confidence is all about trusting yourself, someone else, a situation etc.

For instance; when it comes to showing up on your IG storiesand feeling confident doing so, it’s just about trusting yourself - that you can do it and nothing bad will happen – the world won’t stop turning, no one will die – you’ll get through it completely unscathed.  Hoorah!

But how do I build that trust I hear you say?  Building confidence is described as a build because that’s exactly how you do it – by putting one confidence brick on top of the next until you have this robust structure of confidence.  But how do you go about building these confidence blocks?

Simples! by taking ACTION. 

That’s the simplest way to put it.  Action comes first, confidence follows and that is why you don’t need confidence to crack on and start showing up on your stories.

Look, all new skills that you need to learn can be scary.  Confidence takes time to come. You didn’t pop out miraculously able to walk.  It took several weeks from cruising the furniture, to taking those first bumpy steps before you could finally walk.  Similarly, you didn’t rock out of your first lash course on Day 1 able to create a perfect lash set; there were weeks and months of trial and error, working through those painful case studies.  It’s exactly the same when it comes to confidence and showing up face first on your social media.

Help is on hand however in form of this magic formula, this secret sauce….I call it The 5 C’s Confidence Calculus and it goes like this: Choice + Courage + Course of Action + Continuance + Commitment = TRUST and CONFIDENCE.

The first thing you need is to decide.  Good news, you’re in charge. You get to choose whether or not to stay in the shadows and hide behind your grid pics or to come out, in all your glory and showcase your business by getting your face on camera – sharing your knowledge and passion.  It’s all about getting noticed.  This is how you will go from an invisible lash artist to one that people want to know more about, to book in with, to buy from, to learn from.  This will not happen if you keep hiding.  If you want more, it’s up to you and it starts with you making the choice.  The choice to get yourself VISIBLE.

Next up, it’s all about digging deep and finding the COURAGE to do the scary thing (let’s say that’s showing up on your stories).  Yes it’s scary but actually what is the worst thing that can happen?  I mean really and frankly, you are so invisible right now, who is the algorithm going to show it to. Chances are it’s going to take a while and consistent posting for people to start seeing you so just go for it.  The world is not watching….YET!

The next thing you need to do is DO IT and do it scared.  Feel the fear and do it anyway.  I promise you, nothing bad is going to happen.  Yes there may well be some cringing but you are going to feel so happy with yourself for doing it and just like that a little droplet of confidence will plop into your confidence well.  Remember action first, confidence later.  Doing it once is AMAZING but it won’t convert into full on trust and confidence.  Once just won’t cut it – guess what – you need to do it again!

This is the next C in the formula.  You need to continue to show up on your stories and every time that you do you’ll build another block of confidence.  People will start to notice you, the more you continue to do this and you need to keep on going.  One short sharp burst is not going to get you to that utopian land of confidence.  What you need is consistency (oh wow, I’ve just discovered another C as I write this!) and COMMITMENT.

Commitment to showing up consistently and with persistence because practice makes perfect doesn’t it?

It really is as simple as that and it all starts with you making a choice.  Don’t wait for someone else to make you feel better about yourself. Don’t wait for anything!  Time waits for no man – the time is now – if what you want is to be more VISIBLE in the industry.
